PHINO and PhilHealth conflict?

Majority of the mayors here in the province are willing to support and implement the Provincial Health Insurance of Negros Oriental (PHINO). However, the only restriction from this is the signed Memorandum of Agreement between the local governments and PhilHealth.

This was the concern raised by the mayors who attended the launching of PHINO yesterday at Bethel Guest House.

Bais City Mayor Tata Villanueva raised the concern to Governor Dodo Macias. He said they should let their legal counsels check if they have any liability in case they choose to adopt PHINO.

Governor Macias said there is nothing to worry since the contract with PhilHealth is about to be finished. Board Member Butch Adanza, who authored the ordinance, on the other hand said that according to his readings of the contract, there is nothing wrong if the LGU adopts PHINO.

Meanwhile, Jimalalud Mayor and President of the Mayors’ League Dodoy Tuanda invited Governor Emilio Macias and Dr. Ely Villapando to the mayors’ assembly this coming September 12 in Bahura Beach Resort for them to be able to clearly explain to the local chief executives regarding PHINO.
