POLITICL ACTIVITSTS

WANT BARANGAY POLLS

JIMALALUD ----Political activists are howling for government to proceed with the long overdue barangay elections this October.

In Dumaguete, this is as popular clamore considering the generally bad performance of barangay captains in 30 barrios of this capital city, with a few exceptions.

Out of the 30 barangay captains, only one, JV Imbo, of Bgy polbacion 4 did not incur any liability and unliquidated cash advances.

In sum., the COA said unliquidated cash advances of barangay captains have amounted at one time to P2.4-million. But this amount has been slowly being settled. But as of 2006, the cash advancles of barangay captains have not been fully settled.

People say, the over staying barangay captains are now getting old, and should be replaced with younger ones who know the intricacies of local governments better than the older village chiefs.-30-
