| 5.0 quake rocks DauinDumaguete City July 13 2007 - - - It was literally an earth-shaking Friday the 13th for Negrenses. An earthquake of tectonic origin with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter Scale rocked Dumaguete City and nearby towns of Negros Oriental on Friday July 13 2007 recorded at 8:18 a.m. The Philippine Instittute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)reported the quake to be at intensity VI. Phivolcs also reported that the possible source of the quake was a "local fault in southern Negros." The epicenter of the quake which jolted residents many of whom just reported for work was estimated at 15 kilometers south of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, which would be in the area of Dauin town; 70 kilometers north of Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; 85 kilometers southwest of Tagbilaran, Bohol; and 650 kilometers South southeast of Manila. The buildings will have to be inspected by experts to ensure it won;t pose any hazards to the students. Other schools also undertook precautionary measures and suspended their classes for the safety of their students. No one was reported injured. |
