Visayas still free from MILF

AFP Central Command Chief Lt General Pedro Ike Insierto has alerted the military in region 7 for the possible conduct of “Sympathy Attacks” by the New People’s Army as a support for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front which attacked four towns in Lanao de Norte.

Gen. Insierto said Jose Maria Sison, the founding chairman of the CPP-NDF, has commanded his subordinates to conduct attacks as support to the MILF. However, Gen. Insierto disclosed that there were no reports to the military that the communist rebels would attack.

Insierto added that the military has allied with the police in order to monitor the possible entry of the MILF to the Visayas. They are also guarding vital installations where possible attacks might take place.

General Insierto has assured that the Visayas remains to be generally peaceful while the police and the military strive to maintain it.
