Judge Chiu: Let Estrada Suffer
Former Provincial Executive Judge Eleuterio Chiu disapproved President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s decision to give Executive Clemency towards Former President Joseph Estrada who had been proven guilty for Plunder last September.
Chiu is absolutely not in favor of the President’s decision because it just shows that the government is not serious in its campaign against graft and corruption.
According to Tiu, the immediate issuance of the Executive Clemency for the former President proves the saying that only small fishes get sentenced and suffered the coldness of prison while powerful fishes escape the ruggedness of the law.
Chiu added that it is very sad to note that someone powerful, in fact a former president, was already sentenced which was the first time in the history of the Philippines and yet was released right away.
If former President Estrada be given pardon for humanitarian reasons like his age, the court should have at least let him suffer the real weight of his crime in prison even for just 5 years,Chui said.
