Police given Benefits
Policemen in the city of Dumaguete are now very pleased with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Dumaguete City Chapter’s grant for free legal assistance to law enforcers who are charged with legal suits in line of their duties, said Supt. Dionardo Carlos, Dumaguete City Police Chief.
According to Supt. Carlos, a loud applause was heard from the Dumaguete City Police officers when they were informed by the NAPOLCOM Regional 7 Director Atty. Bernardo Calibo of the good news.
Supt. Carlos added that the Dumaguete City police will no longer be afraid to exercise their duties as law enforcers.
However, Supt. Carlos also said that there are no policemen in his jurisdiction right now who is facing legal charges in line of their duties.
He also admitted that his policemen hesitate to arrest and enforce the law if the lawbreaker is rich and influential and the poor policeman will suffer the consequences.
Supt. Carlos also praised the move to amend the law that will already grant promotion to policemen even if they are facing legal charges.
He also explained that it is better to promote policemen who are in the field even if they are facing legal suits rather that promote those who do not have pending legal charges but are only polishing the chairs inside the police offices.
