Marathon announces the coming of Buglasan festival
As an advance activity for the opening of the Sidlakang Negros Village this coming Sunday, the Negros Marathon was done yesterday morning.
There were about 300 people coming from the different towns and municipalities in the province who participated in the event with the municipality of San Jose as the biggest contingent.
According to Aparicio Mequi who is one of the organizers of the event, they purposely held the event a week before the opening of the Sidlakand Negros Village so that the public will know about the approaching opening of the tourism village.
The event includes the 3-kilometer run for kids, the 5-kilometers run for teens and the 10-kilometers run for ages 18 and above.
Aside from these a special event was included which was the marathon for children with disability.
The proceeds of the marathon will be given to the Asia Rice Foundation which launched the “Save the Banaue Rice Terraces” program.
“Rice is Life” was the theme of the event with which kilograms of rice were given as prizes.
Mequi disclosed that they are planning to hold the same marathon in the different municipalities in the province which will be done every fiesta celebration of each town and the winners will represent the town during the next Buglasan Festival.
The marathon was sponsored by Foundation University Institute of Youth Sports for Peace along with the Technical Assistance of the Metro Dumaguete Road Runners Club.
