The dead body of the youngster who was drowned at Lake Balanan in Siaton town last January 1 was finally found, confirmed Ramsted Tunugbanua, the cousin of the victim who was with him during the drowning incident but was saved by some people who were also in the lake.
The dead body of Jim Jeril Geralde, 22, was recovered by the provincial search and rescue team which was headed by Boyet Somoza.
According to the Tunugbanua, his cousin’s dead body was seen floating just in time of the arrival of the victim’s father who went home from Saudi Arabia after learning that his son is missing while swimming at Lake Balanan.
Geralde is a native of Barangay Junob, Dumaguete City and a graduating Political Science student of the Far Eastern University in Manila. Geralde went on vacation here in the province during the Christmas break and opted to spend the New Year at Lake Balanan.
Tunugbanua related that last January 1, their family decided to spend the New Year at the famous lake. Upon their arrival at the lake, they asked some individuals present if they can go swimming in the lake which in turn said it is allowed to go swimming in the vast waters of the lake. Tunugbanua and Geralde decided to race in swimming but Tunugbanua felt tired right away and was slowly pulled downward so he directly cried for help which he said was what was happening oh his cousin. Tunugbanua was lucky enough when he was held and saved by a Good Samaritan who helped him but his cousin’s hand suddenly got loose on his savior’s hand and directly vanished from within the deep waters.
Tunugbanua also confirmed that the lake has no life guard.
