Politicians: most delinquent taxpayers

Politicians are usually the delinquent tax payers said Provincial Treasurer Danilo Mendez.

According to Mendez, it is usually the politicians who take a long time before paying their taxes especially those who are famous politicians and holds great power, either in the local or national government.
Mendez said this is the reason why local government units could not attain their 1 hundred percent collection for Real Property Taxes. He added that if only the municipal treasurers are not intimidated to collect the Real Property Taxes from famous politicians then most probably they have already achieved their target collection.

Last year, Mendez said, they have only collected 70 million Real Property Taxes or only 70 percent of their target collection.

The provincial treasurer admitted that it is not difficult to achieve the 100 percent collection of Real Property Taxes if only the municipal treasurers are not afraid to be hated by politicians.

However, Mendez guaranteed that his office is taking actions in order to get the municipal treasurers determined to collect and complete their target collection of Real Property Taxes. This is by giving municipal treasurers receipts and cash allowances.
Mendez disclosed that there are only three municipalities in the province which attained their hundred percent target collection. These include the municipalities of Bacong, Sibulan and Manjuyod.
