NegOr Hospitals say
No to hospital holidays
Hospitals in Dumaguete City and the Province will not conduct hospital holidays despite the continuous movements conducted against a provision of the Cheaper Medicine Bill.
Under Chapter 5, Section33, Section 6b, medical, dental and veterinary doctors, including those who are private doctors, are prohibited to prescribe brand names of medicines. They are only to prescribe generic names and will not write any brand name in any part of the prescription.
The Negros Oriental Medical Society, Philippine Academy of Physicians (Negros Oriental Chapter), Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Medical Women’s
Association (Negros Oriental Chapter) and the Negros Oriental Hospital Systems united to go against such provision in the bill. The doctors of these associations wanted such provision to be taken away.
However, NOMS President Dr Kenneth Coo disclosed yesterday during their press conference that although they are against this provision, they will never exercise hospital holidays.
Dr Coo explained that they will never do any protest activities that will go against their principle t protect their patients.
