Mayor seeks DOLE interference on port conflict
The rift at the Dumaguete City Port is still left unsettled and Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices has sent a letter to the Department of Labor and Employment to take over with the said problem.
In the letter, Mayor Agustin Perdices described that the transactions at the port has been disrupted because of the former port workers who demand to be absorbed by the new stevedoring company striking in the area. The mayor wanted to know from the Department of Labor and Employment if the strike done by the former workers is legal or not and if the stoppage of the entry of the transport vehicles in the port is defined in the law.
The mayor further expressed in the letter that the conflict at the port has brought much problems already since businessmen increased the prices of their merchandises due to additional expenses on its transportation.
We can recall that during the conference done between the strikers and the new cargo handler operator, along with Congressman George Arnaiz, Governor Dodo Macias, Mayor Agustin Perdices, Congressman Iggy Arroyo and the Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Customs Brokerage Grace Ibuna, they were not able to come up with a solution to the problem thus the mayor already asks for the DOLE interference.
