Police Chief nearly swindled
Dumaguete City Chief of Police Supt Leopoldo Cabanag was nearly tricked by someone who introduced to be one PNP Regional Director Roderos and asked for P30, 000 cash.
In an interview with Supt Cabanag, he revealed that he received a text message that instructed him to follow the orders of the person who claimed to be General Roderos. Furthermore, the texter added that he should deposit P30, 000 to a thrust fund to a certain patient named Mila Fernandez Torillo who is currently at the Philippine Heart Center.
When Supt Cabanag called the number of the texter, he noticed that the man on the other end tends to change his voice and he found out that it was not General Roderos himself.
In Supt Cabanag’s desire to trace the hoodwink, he went to Western Union to deposit a little amount inorder to capture the suspect but he then realized that it would be useless since the receiver could no longer be traced. When Cabanag was in Western Union he was surprised to see another police officer who was also tricked by the same manner.
