NPA Mass base abounds in Siaton
The Commanding Officer of the 79th Infantry Battalion posted at Siaton town admits that there is indeed still a mass base of the communist rebels in the said area.
Lt Col Erwin Neri explainsed at DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight that the members of the New People’s Army will never stay in place where it has no mass base or avid supporters. He admitted that in Mantikil, Siaton town, there sis still a number of NPA supporters.
However, Neri is hopeful that conducting series of gatherings in the said area will bring back the sympathy to the government of the NPA supporters. Neri also clarified that not all residents in the area are controlled by the reds. According to him, this is the reason why the NPA has used their legal fronts to destroy their image to the public so that the civilians will be outraged by their presence.
Neri added that they are presently working to build a relationship with the residents in the area and he accepts the possibility that an armed encounter between the two forces may arise again especially if the leftists get tangled.
Neri said that some of the rebels are farmers in the morning but are holding their firearms when darkness abounds. He is hopeful that by 2010, which is the time targeted by PGMA, all communist rebels will already be eradicated.
