Guihulnganons conduct indignation rally
More or less 500 residents coming from five different barangays in Guihulngan City conducted an indignation rally at the city’s public market which showed their repugnance to the reported atrocities in Guihulngan and to condemn the presence of the communist rebels in their city.
Last Saturday afternoon, the residents coming from Barangays Trinidad, Linantuyan, T-Hill, Mabunga and Malusay along with some barangay captains and officials marched around the cities carrying with them anti-communists slogans and placards which condemn the alleged collection of revolutionary taxes from poor farmers in the hinterbarangays, forced recruitment and other forms of harassment.
Among the speakers were the barangay captains of Malusay, Reynaldo Casipong, and Linantuyan, Elpidio Villar who was allegedly one of the victims of the NPA Atrocities who was also one of the complainants of the charges coercion and extortion against one Lourdes Baloy.
A representative from the Guihulngan Police, SPO2 Rizalde de Lara also gave the police’ stand along with Major Nathaniel Villasor, Civil Military Operations Officer of the 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Murcia, Negros Occidental.
One of the highlights of the indignation rally was the burning of two effigies of Fred Caña, secretary general of Karapatan, and Erwin Sabijon of Kaugmaon.
