US Ambassador visits Dgte, NegOr
United States Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney visited the city and the province of Negros Oriental to check the different projects implemented by the US here. These include the inspection of the water waste treatment facility located at the Quezon Park, checking out the Peace Corps Volunteers in Amlan town and others.
US Ambassador Kenney came to Dumaguete City through an invitation of Silliman University where she was the guest speaker of the first convocation exercises of the school year.
The United States, the city of Dumaguete and the province of Negros Oriental have united to implement different projects. These include the assistance of US to the computerization of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in order to improve and increase tax collection and the deployment of US Peace Corps Volunteers who lived and worked with the different local government units in the province as a way of supporting the coastal resource management and conservation.
The Peace Corps Volunteers have also presented to work in public elementaries, high schools and universities in order to help improve the English proficiency of the teachers and students.
In an alliance with the different American schools and hospitals, the United States assisted Silliman University in the construction of a cyber library which has now included the American Studies Resource Center.
Under the Coastal Management program, America also gave scholarships to students for further studies on Environmental Science and Education and Development Communication. On the environment, the US allied with 9 municipalities to promote Environmental Governance, Solid Waste Management, Forest resource Management and water management especially here in Dumaguete City.
According to Kenney, there will be lots of projects that will be poured here since she found out that the former projects they implemented here were successful.
