Guihulngan Mayor admits presence of unsanitary drinking water
The Mayor of Guihulngan City has admitted that not all barangays in his town has “sanitary drinking water”.
This was revealed by Guihulngan City Mayor Ernesto Reyes as a reaction to the diarrhea outbreak that occurred in his city.
In an interview over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight, Mayor Reyes disclosed that there are hinterbarangays located in secluded areas that could no longer benefit from sfae drinking waters due to its distance. Second, Mayor Reyes said that the supply of water could not climb up top the mountains from the city.
However, he said that what the local government of Guihulngan is doing at present is to educate the residents of the hinterbarangays and those who do not have fixed water sources to boil the water before drinking.
Mayor Reyes also admitted that during rainy seasons, many suffer from diarrhea. It can be recalled that 1o have already succumbed to death while nearly a hundred were brought to the hospital for treatment excluding those who only stayed in their houses for treatment. The Regional Health Office visited Guihulngan City to inspect and determined that the cause of the diarrhea outbreak is contaminated water.
