Fire volunteer fell, dead
A fire volunteer of the Dumaguete City Fire Department has passed away yesterday afternoon after he fell down from the fire truck which responded to a fire alarm at the Silliman University Medical center last Wednesday.
This was learned by DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight from Capt. William Tacaldo, City Fire Marshall.
Rico Cabalita, of legal age, single from Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City underwent a delicate operation in his head which was greatly damaged by his fall down a fire truck that responded to an alarm. The fire truck made a sudden turn at a curve along By-Pass Road when the victim was caught off balance and fell.
The multicab for hire following the fire truck brought Cabalita to the hospital since the fire truck personnel failed to notice Cabalita’s fall because of their fast speed. Capt. Said this is the first time wherein somebody fell down the fire truck when it responded to an alarm. The City Fire Marshall disclosed that it is already Cabalita’s 8th year as fire volunteer. Cabalita has just received his Certificate of Recognition from the Regional Office because of his exemplary performance of giving service to the fire department as fire volunteer.
Capt. Tacaldo also clarified that Cabalita has undergone training and what has happened was only a sad accident.
