Massage clinics soon to be regulated
Massage Clinics and establishments will soon be regulated. This will take place if ever the bill authored by Councilor Nilo Sayson entitled “An Ordinance regulating the operation of massage establishments and massage services and providing penalties thereof” gets approval from the body.
In an interview over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight, Councilor Sayson said that although massage is good for the health, there are certain aspects in massage operations which need to be regulated. This is also to protect the customers. Councilor Sayson also disclosed that just like in other places, massage establishments are only used as fronts of prostitution. The councilor said aside from legitimate massage establishments here there are a lot of massage clinics which are not recognized especially those which are only operating in their houses.
The councilor added that he has noticed that the number of massage clinics and establishments here in Dumaguete are increasing that is why there is a need to regulate them.
Under Sayson’s bill, the massage therapists should undergo 6 months of training, should be 18 years old and above and should have health certificate from the City Health Officer. Another concern stated in the bill is the prohibition of massaging the opposite sex. However, Councilor Sayson said that the bill is yet to undergo public hearing if ever it is approved in its second reading.
