PEOPLE ARE ANGERY OVER
UNSOVLED KILLINGS
The people of Dumaguete led by the officers of the Court who are the lawyers and members of the Integrated Bar Chapter will hold an indignation rally today as the people’s expression of anger and public disgust , over the rash of extrajudicial killings and a challenge for our authorities to show force in stopping these wanton destruction of human lives.
There are no less than ten unsolved extrajudicial killings in the city and province not to mention those killed in ambushes and political vendettas during the last elections.
The lawyers group headed this year by Atty Samsodin Tahir who said that the indignation rally will also get the participation of judges and fiscals.
This indignation rally which starts 3pm at the Hall of Justice along EJ Blanco road in Piapi, will end upwith a short program at the Quezon Park.
The indignation rally over the rash of unsolved extrajudicial killings was precipitated by the murder of the judge of the regional trial court in Bayawan City Judge Orlando Velasco who was shot in front of his house last week.
But if we come to ask the question, whose fault is it that the police is usually the end taker with an empty bag about this killings? Is it the fault o the police for being too undermanned that they cannot even answer phone calls at the police station? But how can the police answer phone calls when the hot line 111 is out of order? Yes sir, the police hotline 111 is out of commission.
POLICE HOT LINE
OUT OF ORDER
The PNP has not even informed the public that the hot line of 111 is no longer functioning. God only knows how many emergency calls have missed he police station. It has been out of order for many weeks now. Has anyone also bothered to inform Curztelco that the police hotline of 111 is out of order?
Today the temporary hotline is 225 1766. the office of the chief of police is 225 3557 which also seldom gets an answer. The city PNP also does not have as globe line in that 422 line globe owners will have to pass the difficult interface thru Cruztelco and vice versa. Even calling the police number is an ordeal, not a public convenience. The only available line is 225 7166 for the over 100,000 city residents and the city’s 20,000 households.
The police wants the public to report crimes and suspicious looking people, but their hotlines are out of order 111 and no globe connection at all. How can the public call the police without an easy access hotline?
