Fire Department eyes Barangay Fire Brigade
The Dumaguete City Fire Department will establish a Barangay Fire Brigade said Captain William Tacaldo, Dumaguete City Fire Department Chief.
According to Capt. Tacaldo, as a celebration of the Fire Prevention Month this March, he aims to establish a barangay fire brigade. This will be composed of the barangay officials especially the barangay tanods and even some concerned citizens of the barangay.
Tacaldo said that the fire department personnel themselves will conduct the training o the barangay fire brigades. However, he pointed out the firefighters will still be the ones to combat fire in case incidents of conflagration arises. Tacaldo added that the barangay fire brigade volunteers can help put out the fire in case the firefighters were not able to arrive immediately.
Another duty foreseen for the barangay fire brigade marshals is to assist in putting cordons in the place where a conflagration aroused. This is usually the problem of the firefighters in times of conflagration since lots of people flock into the area to investigate thus, distracting the firefighters from their jobs.
Tacaldo explained that the fire brigade would greatly help the fire department since they could stay vigilant in the deep night when fire incidents usually occur.
One of the planned activities for the Fire Prevention Month is to give lectures on fire safety tips to the different schools in the city.
Tacaldo added that it is important to educate the children and the youth regarding fire prevention. The theme for this year’s celebration of fire prevention is “Prevent Fire, Be Informed, Get Involved”.
