Dog owners to get fines and imprisonment
Implementation of the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 under the Republic Act 9482 which is the imposition of fines and detaining of individuals who do wrong practice of domesticating dogs will be strictly imposed according to the City Veterinarian’s Office.
City Veterinarian Dr Lourdes Socorro pointed out that ignorance of such law is not an excuse for a person not to be imposed with fines or be detained in jail for neglecting their pet dogs that have caused harm to others. She lauded that based on their records, there are still a number of stray dogs in the city and they are back on shooting these stray dogs that they see roaming in the city.
Section 11 of Republic Act 9482 says that those dog-owners who failed to register and vaccinate their pet dogs are subject to a fine of two thousand pesos and will answer all the medical expenses of the person bitten by the dog. The provision added that an additional ten thousand pesos fine will be imposed if the owner failed or refused to submit his pet dog to the government agency which is tasked to observe the dog in case it was able to bite somebody.
Dr Socorro is advising all dog owners to do their responsibility before it becomes too late.
