Solon favors 10% wage increase from basic pay

Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Henry Pryde Teves has expressed favors in the granting of a 10 percent wage increase from the basic pay of all employees working in the private sector.
He believes that the same is quite enough good and is acceptable to both the employees and employers.
“If the labor sector will ask for a 10% wage increase from the basic pay, this is good enough” said Teves in a recent media interview.
The solon’s statement came after several days when the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board had held their meetings in some places of the region for the mandated consultation before granting any wage increase.
The solon said that it is right and proper for a wage increase as the purchasing power of the employees are also getting lesser due to some factors.
The solon whose family employs thousands of employees being owners of the sugar central, some haciendas and a softdrink distribution company.
Earlier, the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry has indirectly not in favor of a wage increase but only to some called non wage benefits.
Dumaguete City Councilor Chiquiting Sagarrbaria said that non wage benefits may include rice allowance, transportation among others.
The solon also assured the employees that if ever the wage increase will be discussed in Congress, he will actively participate it and bat for a 10 percent wage increase.
The solon also added that in the interest of continuos industrial peace, it is also encouraged that workers and employers should regularly conduct dialogues and other forms of coordination and maintaining the communications lines open.
In this approach, he said both parties would allow adjustsments and compromises as they discuss their respective problems in the labor and business front.
