More than 2000 Athletes to compete in POF
MORE than 2000 athletes are going to wage a friendly battle against each other, each one hoping to secure a slot for the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival All Visayas Qualifying Games, hosted by the province of Negros Oriental set on July 23 to 27, this year. Glynda Descuatan, Co-Chair of the Negros Oriental Sports and Cultural Facilities Board of Management said, that the province will be sending more than 500 athletes. With 2000 athletes competing, Cebu province expected to have the largest delegation while the provinces of Western and Eastern Visayas will be also sending their own delegation and the provinces of Bohol and Siquijor. Descuatan said, in their recent telephone conversation with the Philippine Sports Commission Chair, William “Butch” Ramirez, despite, the calamities brought by the storm “Frank” in Ilo-Ilo and Panay province, he hopes that the local leaders will send their athletes in Dumagute city for the said event.
Descuatan added that she is hoping that by holding the Philippine Olympic Festival, we could discover talents from our own athletes and other provinces, that we could send not only in the National Championship, but in other big sports events in our country. The event will open with a street parade in the busy streets of Dumaguete and a torch relay inside the Perdices Memorial Coliseum, before it will light up at the cauldron, place inside the coliseum.
