Anti-Insurgency campaign tightened
In order to strengthen the anti-insurgency drive of the Arroyo administration, the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office asked for additional two company size provincial mobile groups. This is to assist the armed forces of the Philippines in its campaign against communist rebels.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants to put an end to the decades long insurgency problem in time for her term to expire in 2010. Several encounters between communist rebels and members of the Philippine Army happened here in the province which showed their strong campaign to eliminate the rebels.
The military and the police have also improved their information drive and civic military operations which aimed to get the sympathy of the civilians in the hinterlands of the province.
The 705th Provincial Mobile Group under Chief Inspector Julius Muñez, Group Director, based in Camp Fernandez in Agan-an is appointed as the Chief Unit. Earlier, as preparation of a possible attack from the reds, the Philippine National Police has ordered all stations to tighten their security.
