Military donates school building in Mantiquil
As an answer to the extreme need for a secondary school in Barangay Mantiquil, Siaton town, the 79th Infantry Battalion constructed a 2-classroom school building. This institution is named Mantiquil Masaligan High School.
It is called Masaligan since according to Mantiquil Barangay Captain Jasmine Darias interviewed over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight, it was derived from the 79th Masaligan Battalion under the command of Lt. Col Erwin Bernard Neri which is based in Siaton.
The school was formally inaugurated and turned over by the Philippine Army to Mayor BingBing Arbolado yesterday morning. The inauguration and turn over of the newly built high school to the local government of Siaton was graced by 302nd Brigade Commander Col. Cesar Yano, Col. Erwin Bernard Neri, Mayor Arbolado, Siaton Vice-Mayor Roel Gabo, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Barangay Officials, students, parents and representatives of the Department of Education.
According to Barangay Captain Darias, the school building given by the Philippine Army would be of much help to their barangay since at present they do not have any high school institution. In fact, according to her, those who finished elementary do not usually proceed to high school because of the distance from their place to Poblacion. Barangay Mantiquil is about 24 kilometers away from Poblacion, Siaton.
