Editorial: Building better PNP headquarters
We should like to describe the incumbency of Police Provincial Director Senior Police Supt Augusto Marquez Jr as one who is a builder of new police stations and headquarters.
Never before in the history of provincial commands in Negros Oriental, even in the defunct Philippine Constabulary has a provincial commander been actively engrossed in building better-equipped police headquarters and rehabilitating police vehicles in cooperation with mayors and local governments.
The first recipient is Bais City where ten million pesos worth of funds to build its PNP headquarters will be released, after PD Marques has convinced the Bais LGU thru mayor Tata Villanueva , to donate one thousand square meters of land to the PNP for its Bais police headquarters.
Many police stations in the municipalities are squatting either within the old municipal buildings or in a place adjacent which is usually an old house or building, but never owned by the PNP. The City of Dumaguete has now its own PNP building along Cervantes street.
The Marquez formula is simple. Let the municipality secure even 500 square meters of prime lot for the police station, formally donate the same to the PNP , and in return, Marquez will cause the release of at least P5Million pesos depending on the size of the police station to be built in such town or small city.
It is important that police stations be located in separate strategic areas.
To follow will be Sta Catalina. First, a donation of a reconditioned police car secured by PD Marquez from the PNP motor pool in Cebu, reconditioned and paid P60T by the LGU of Sta Catalina. Another p40T is released by the LGU for two 4 x 4 patrol jeeps for the mountains. This is the best thing that happened to PNP in Sta Catalina.
Next is Canlaon city whose LGU under mayor Judith Cardenas will shortly donate 1.2hectares of land to the PNP for its headquarters site. In no time, Canlaon City PNP will be well equipped under its own building.
PNP PD Marquez is one who is walking the talk of the PNP in instituting genuine reforms. Never before has PNP headquarters building been a primary concern, than it is today under the very doable, Marquez formula.
This is one PNP provincial director who has the vision and the initiative. For this, we doff our hats to Col. Augusto Marquez Jr., for building better headquarters for our policemen in the municipalities. Let the Marquez tribe increase.
