DID WE ELECT NON BARANGAY TRAPOS?
Some people have the wrong notion that just because October 29 was just an election for barangay councilmen, it WAS not as important as a local or national election. Absolutely a wrong notion indeed.
On the contrary, the barangay elections that passed could yet be the most important of all elections especially when it comes to cleansing our electoral system of the corrupt practices of elections.
When those unqualified , corrupt and traditional politicians are elected into the barangay councils, these people will also be the ones who will endorse traditional politicians in future of local and national officials of the country because they will be the frontline vote campaigners.
The reason is that all candidates from the local to the national elections will solicit the support of our barangay leaders in delivering the votes of higher elective officials from the town, city , province and nation in the next many elections to come.
No elective local or national official can win in an area without the support of barangay officials and leaders. That is how important barangay leaders are in the life of a big traditional politician.
In fact, the barangay elections could have been the most partial of all elections. There may not have been any political party in sight, but the financiers behind the barangay elections come from higher mostly incumbent and aspiring future elective officials. The election finances may not come form a political party, but individual political leaders.
Therefore, since barangay councilmen and leaders are the ones being tapped as road runners of higher political aspirants, we hope that the people elected real impartial barangay captains and councilmen who have high moral principles and integrity which cannot be bought nor used by higher officials.
AT the end of the day, it is the voters who will determine the future of their own communities by voting for NON POLITICAL AND NON TRADITIONAL barangay officials Otherwise, all future election frauds in forthcoming political exercises will involve many barangay front liners who incidentally were mostly the very same people whom people voted last Oct. 29.
An improved electoral system, and local government, will depend on whether or not the people voted for competent, dedicated and most of all non political barangay captains and council members so that in future and bigger elections the people can also be---hopefully--- assured of the same impartiality.
