City Gov’t to open
Motorcab franchises
The city government of Dumaguete will give an extension until this coming February 29 for those 169 individuals who failed to renew their franchise of motorcabs for hire for several years now.
Those who will still fail to renew their franchises by the time allotted, the city government will open for new applicants to replace those who have not renewed their franchises, said Councilor Franklin Esmena.
The city council will tackle this afternoon during their regular session a bill authored by Councilor Franklin Esmena which entitles to change the ordinance. However, Esmena pointed out that that they will set a limit of 2500 units of motorcabs in the city. In the past years, there are 169 individuals who failed to renew their franchises for reasons only them know. If ever, these 169 persons can renew their franchises, then there is no need to do some changes. This is to complete the target number of 2500 units to operate in the city.
This means that if there are only 100 individuals who can renew their franchises then only the remaining 69 units will be opened for new franchises.
Esmena said that those who are interested to operate a motorcab, they can inquire at the permit section of the city hall.
