NegOr plantation inefficient to provide demands in province
Provincial Agriculturist Communication Officer Oliver Lemenci cleared that although the province has a very wide area planted with rice and corn still it is not enough to provide the daily supply that the residents of the province can consume.
According to Lemenci, there are about 500 hectares of rice fields and an estimated 400 hectares of corn fields in the province for the past years yet it’s harvest is still not enough to supply all the consumers here in the whole province.
He also pointed out that it is not only the province of Negros Oriental which is acing the same problem of rice shortage in the whole country and so the Provincial Agriculturist Office is strongly trying to promote the program which will help solve the problem like improving GPAK or Gulayan at Palaisdaan Alay sa mga Kabataan and the promotion of organic fertilizers.
Lemenci added that an emergency meeting will be attended by their Division Chief in Cebu in order to agree on the studies that will be undertaken so that the food crisis that the whole country is experiencing will be solved.
