The provincial legislative council headed by Vice Governor Jose “Petit” Baldado has authorized Governor Emilio Macias 11 to P47 million pesos loan for the implementation of his latest project, “Basta NegOr Education 104” program.
Both the Provincial School l Board and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan gave the go-signal for the governor to acquire a loan with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) for the construction of 104 school buildings in its initial phase.
This developed as the Department of Education in Negros Oriental, headed by division superintendent Licerio Napao, submitted a listing of the school buildings to be constructed in every municipality, during the meeting with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Negros Oriental chapter.
In that meeting, it was also proposed that local government units take part in the project under a possible cost-sharing scheme.
Napao said this is a joint project of the provincial government and the Department of Education headed by Secretary Jesli Lapus.
Under the agreement, DepEd will provide for one teacher each for every classroom built by the provincial government.
According to Napao, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was appraised of the undertaking and is extending her full support and approval of the project.
The school building project intends to address the need for additional classrooms due to the expected rise in enrolment in the public schools this school year.
Macias also informed the league that each Provincial Board Member shall be given an allocation of one school building with two classrooms for them to build with their funds.
