30-minute session at Provincial Board?
Chairman of the Committee on Rules Board member Saleto Erames strongly denied the allegations that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan session will only run for about 30 minutes.
DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight received a text message claiming that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is very different from the Dumaguete City Council since they only spend 30 minutes for their regular session while the City Council takes more than two hours to finish their sessions.
The texter added that the Sannguniang Panlalawigan is only wasting the money of the tax payers as they only bring shame to the province.
However, Board Member Erames defended saying that the texter is a dupe since based on the record of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, 30 minutes is a very short time to discuss all the matters that they need to talk about.
Erames explained that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is really different from the City Council since they are only tasked to check if the local governments were not able to infringe any law on their ordinances and then see if the ordinance can pass.
According to Erames, after the Provincial Attorney will be able to present the ordinances formulated by the city and the other municipal governments and after his endorsement as the Chairman of the Committee on Rules, the Provincial Board will directly approve the presented ordinances. This is very different from the city council which needs a lot of discussion and debate on their planned ordinance.
This is the reason why the provincial board is speedy with its work but this does not mean that they are only wasting the money of the people, stressed Erames.
