NORECO 2 assures ample supply of electricity in Dumaguete,
Other parts of Negros Oriental
By ED SESTOSO
The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II (NORECO II) has assured of continuous and ample supply of electricity in its area of coverage, amidst rising concerns of power shortage in many parts of the Visayas.
Engr. Dominador Sherwin Tragico, NORECO II in-charge of office, said that so far, the Transco has been faithful in keeping its previous assurances to key officials in the province that Negros Oriental would be the last to be affected in the event of a power load shedding.
Energy officials had repeatedly given the assurance that it will prioritize power supply in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental, considering that the province is host to the twin geothermal power plants in Palinpinon , Valencia town.
Both plants generate a combined capacity of 192.5 MW of power, with another 20-MW power plant in Nasulo, also in Valencia town, scheduled for operation in 2009.
Tragico, however, admitted that sometimes Transco would request NORECO II for a load shedding but the requirement is usually minimal and cannot be felt by consumers.
He said that when load shedding is required, it usually is being rotated in areas that are not heavily populated.
Tragico, explained that power outages usually take place here due to regular maintenance operations, such as clearing of trees and replacement or repair of electric poles, and when unavoidable circumstances, such as severe weather disturbance, take place.
He assured that unlike other areas in the Visayas where regular power outages are already schedules to take place daily, NORECO 2 has so far been doing its best to protect is consumers, especially in Dumaguete where it is the hub of trade and commerce in the province.
