Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II reiterated his support for the development of the bamboo industry in the province, after a Belgian investor signed an agreement with the Buglas Bamboo Institute here for a bamboo factory.
The province has ample supply of bamboo that can meet the demand for exporting its by-products, such as furniture and crafts.
Macias said the international investor would not only offer more jobs but also give more publicity for Negros Oriental.
The GL Pearl of the Orient is a Belgium-based company that holds office in Cebu City which is into exporting bamboo and rattan-made products to the United States and Europe , Macias said.
The Buglas Bamboo Institute manufactures products known for its world-class quality, unique designs and elegance.
The Chief Executive Officer of GL Pearl Company, George Lejeune, said the agreement between Buglas Bamboo and GL Pearl was a realization of their long-delayed plans of working with the world-class bamboo product makers.
Under the agreement, Buglas Bamboo will be producing different bamboo products while GL Pearl will take charge of the marketing.
Lejeune said their company is confident that they can easily market the product because of its quality.
Among the most ordered products are furnitures and bamboo window shades.
The proposed bamboo factory will be established in Barangay Maayong-Tubig in Dauin, Negros Oriental.
According to Buglas Bamboo Institute Chairman Frans Kleine Koerkamp, the establishment of a bamboo factory would give job opportunities to the residents of Maayong-tubig.
The signing of the agreement was held last week at the Buglas Bamboo production site in Maayong-tubig, Dauin, and Negros Oriental.
