CPC widened here; Prov’l rice
sufficiency eyed in 3 years
The officials of UNICEF and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) are presently here to study the possible conduct of a Country Program for Children (CPC) in the province of Negros Oriental.
The program includes education, nutrition, children’s rights and others. According to Adrian Sedillo, Capitol Public Information Officer who was interviewed over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight disclosed that the officials of UNICEF and NEDA are here to evaluate the status of the 6th CPC.
Meanwhile, Adrian Sedillo admitted that it will still take three more years before the province of Negros Oriental becomes sufficient with its rice and corn production. Sedillo said the province is yet 60 to 70 percent sufficient with its rice production while 88 percent sufficient with its corn production. This is the reason why, according to him, the province launched the Masagana 104 in order to prevent rice and corn shortages.
Sedillo added that the province still needs 72 million pesos for the rehabilitation of its irrigation system.
