Additional police force to arrive
Fifteen additional police officers arrived yesterday who are assigned in the province. This was revealed by Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office Director Sr/Supt Augusto Marquez Jr at DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight. Another 65 police officers are also expected to be assigned here.
However, when Col. Marquez was asked if there will be police officers that will be assigned in the Dumaguete City Police Station he said that he will still prioritize the needs. He admitted that although there are problems of petty crimes here which is considered as a university town he believes that it is not because of the lack of force but there is a need to change the management style.
Col. Marquez said that he is giving much importance to giving additional men to the police force in municipalities and component cities because of insurgency problems. He added that that the police is still under heightened alert to the possible attack from the New People’s Army.
The Provincial Director said that the communist rebels have no force to attack the police stations but it is much better if they keep being ready. He said that police nowadays are assisting the military to eliminate insurgents like conducting check points whenever there are encounters in the hinterlands.
