Soldier shots Commanding Officer

A soldier who shot his official while the latter was asleep was also shot by another soldier to death.

Lt. Rene Jimena, Head of the Military Intelligence Company (MICO) was shot by Private First Class Francisco Draper, a member of the MICO yesterday dawn inside his office while he was sleeping. Lt. Jimena was hit thrice in his belly and foot.

According to Col. Cesar Yano, 302nd Brigade Commander who spoke before the media disclosed that Lt. Jimena is already in a safe state. He said without enough reason, PFC. Draper rushed inside Lt. Jimena’s office while the he was sleeping and without a word shot the official using a caliber 45 pistol.

After the shooting, PFC Draper immediately fled. Col. Yano admitted that PFC Draper was formerly confined at the V. Luna Hospital after he experienced mental problems. However, the Army hospital has issued a clearance for Draper stating that he is already well that is why he was allowed to resume his duty.

Col. Yano narrated that PFC. Draper immediately tried to escape but was caught by the military while he was about to board a ferry in Tampi. He was captured right on time and while they were inside the vehicle of an Intelligence Officer of the 302nd Brigade, Draper snitched the firearm of Sgt. Ivan Magallanes. The driver of the vehicle came to an abrupt halt in Sitio Lala-an, Barangay Sto. Nino, San Jose where the passengers were thrown out from the vehicle. The M16 firearm exploded but nobody was hit. Due to this circumstance, Sgt. Magallanes was forced to shot PFC Draper as the latter wrestled with him.

Col. Yano disclosed that Provincial Director Sr/Supt Augusto Marquez will conduct the investigation regarding the death of PFC Draper.
