Negros Fights Against Measles
Philippines has been cited by the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund as the top country in the whole Asia and one of the few in the world which is making a strong campaign against measles which has been noted as one of the major killer disease on children in the world.
Negros Oriental has been strengthening its campaign against measles by conducting “Knock-out Tigdas” Program which is spearheaded by the Integrated Provincial Health Office(IPHO).
The program is expected to last until the 15th of November by giving children aging from four to nine years anti-measles vaccination.
“Knock-out Tigdas” is the follow-up program of the 1998-2004 “Ligtas Tigdas” campaign of the national government.
To ensure that there are no children who missed the vaccination program done in health centers, health workers will go door-to-door on every residence in the province.
This health program for children has been showing positive results in reducing death among children and this will help realize the government’s vision on a measles-free Philppines.
