1 red dead at Sta Catalina
One member of the communist rebels died after an encounter with the 61st Infantry Battalion at Sitio Bantulinao, Barangay Talalac, Sta Catalina town last Monday morning.
According to Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe, a platoon from the 61st IB conducted a roving in the area when they were able to come across some ten to fifteen armed men who are suspected to be members of the New People’s Army. The exchange of gun shots lasted for about fifteen minutes and the rebels escaped towards the Northeastern direction, leaving one of their companion who died in the encounter.
No one was harmed on the part of the military and up to now, they still don’t have the identity of the one who died. Buenafe disclosed that the dead body was brought to Sta Catalina Police Station but no relative claimed the dead body. The police were able to recover 1 grenade on the alleged rebel and a paraffin test was already conducted on him.
