CAFGU Officer shot dead
A member of the CAFGU was dead after being shot by three still unidentified suspects last Sunday afternoon in Barangay Sandayaw, Guihulngan City.
The victim was identified as Elpidio Catubay Bacarro, 38 years old, single who hails from the same place and a member of the CAFGU 12th Infantry Battalion o the Philippine Army.
Police report says that the victim was coming from his duty. On his way home, he stayed at Barangay Sandayaw since an activity was conducted as a celebration of their barangay fiesta. While the victim was standing, three unidentified men approached him. One of the suspects fired his gun at the victim’s back, just below his head resulting for the victim to collapse. The three also brought Bacarro’s wallet with them after the incident.
On a follow-up investigation made by the police, they figured out that the suspects who immediately fled are probably members of the sparrow unit of the CPP-NPA.
Authorities are still conducting follow-up investigations to identify the motive of the suspects. Empty shells of still unidentified fire arms were recovered in the crime scene.
In a follow-up conducted by DYRM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight from Senior Inspector Petronilo Gracia, Guihulngan Chief of Police, it was found out that they are already in the process of identifying the names of the three suspected sparrow unit members. However, he did not disclose any names.
According to Senior Inspector Gracia, they are continuously tracking the angle insurgency as the main motive of the incident.
Gracia disclosed that he personally submitted his progress report to the said crime to Negros Oriental Provincial Police Director Sr/Supt Melvin Ramon Buenafe.
