Meciano residents fight against thieves
Twenty- six recognized members of the United Meciano Residents signed a manifesto dated February 2 asking the police and the local government officials to stop the frequent incidents of burglary in their area.
According to the residents of Dr Meciano Road, they have always been victims of burglary and they fear that burglars will just continue robbing them of their properties. The residents also accused that the thieves are just around the corners. They fear that these robbers might hurt or worse kill them in the future.
They requested the police to do their jobs including the government officials and the media as watchdogs in the society. However, the residents also admitted that most of the thief incidents go unreported since some of the residents believe that these robbers are no longer afraid with the police officials since they just come and go from jail.
Earlier, Supt Dionardo Carlos, Dumaguete City Chief of Police said that it is necessary for the residents to report such cases in order or them to take action. He said that not trusting the police is not a reason since the community can only attain an ideal police force I there is an ideal community. He explained that the community should cooperate with the police force and be ready to file charges against lawbreakers so that they may get the punishment they deserve.
