Ex-Port Workers seek GMA’s help
The employees of the Dumaguete City Port are already seeking for the interference of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo regarding the still unresolved conflict at the port.
President Arroyo is scheduled to visit here this coming April 25 and during an interview at DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight, ALU-TUCP District Officer Felizardo Calimpong disclosed that they are determined to do every means they can in order to talk with the executive officer during her expected visit and express all their sentiments to her.
According to Calimpong, if they are given the chance to converse with President Arroyo, they will plead to her that the transporters of cargoes at the port won’t lose their jobs. The picket at the port has already lasted or 35 days and Calimpong said that the families of the picketers are already starving.
Calimpong also challenged the Department of Social Welfare and Development here in the city to provide food for the children of the picketers who lost their jobs. He also threatened to file a countercharge against the DSWD Officials who sued him first for allegedly using the children as human shields during the melee that figured out last March 29. However, Calimpong did not reveal what charges he is going to file.
