CAFGU unit attacked by NPA
A member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was hurt after the CAFGU detachment Unit was allegedly attacked by communist rebels in Barangay Binubuhan, Guihulngan City last Monday afternoon.
The CAFGU member hit during the attack is Leonardo Lipasan who was immediately brought to the Guihulngan Hospital but was transferred afterwards to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital. Lipasan attained one shot wound on his right foot.
In an interview with DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight in the hospital, Lipasan narrated the event. According to him, at around 4 Monday afternoon, they were digging a hole for a post intended for the administration of their detachment. Suddenly, 15 communist rebels materialized and fired several gun shots at them.
Lipasan added that they immediately gathered their fire arms and fired back at the rebels. A 15-minute shoot out happened. The NPAs backed-off heading to different directions.
On the other hand, Lt Col Franco Nemesio Gacal, Commanding Officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion said that the NPA’s fled along with their companions who were hit during the encounter. This was according to the traces of blood found at the path were the rebels passed.
