VICE MAYOR WANTS CITY ADMINISTRATOR’
INVESTIGATED FOR ALLEGED GRAFT PRACTICES
Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling stepped down for 30 minutes as presiding officer of the city Council Thursday to denounce the alleged conduct unbecoming of the city administrator of Dumaguete and called for his investigation on alleged graft practices.
The Vice Mayor who re-took his post back from VM William Ablong last elections denounced in a privilege speech city administrator Junny Dumalag for allegedly challenging him for a fist fight inside the latter’s office when the vice mayor sought clarification why plantilla-listed personnel in the city council were transferred to the general services office.
He also revealed that in his random inspection, he found out that the Dumalag Concrete Sand and Gravel owned by the city administrator’s family allegedly was as constant winner in biddings for city government projects. He said this is prohibited in the anti-graft law Sec 89 entitled “Prohibited business and pecuniary interest” among local government officials and employees either directly or indirectly.
Dumalag was quick to deny the allegations of the vice mayor saying that it was Maquiling who barged into his office , and fuming mad, and dumped papers on his table.
Dumalag also denied pecuniary interest in the supply of sand and gravel by his family’s business saying that it is his son who is running the business handed over by his father who has long founded the Dumalag Conceret Sand and Gravel. He added that this company had been participating in biddings long before he became part o city hall.
Dumalag welcomed the investigation by the Council Committee on Good Govenrment and Ethics Committees headed by Kagawad Tony Remollo..
