Church to conduct indignation rally against “pro-abortion” bill
Diocese of Dumaguete Vicar General Fr. Gamaliel Tulabing plans to conduct an indignation rally against its alleged “pro-abortion bill” which is due for its second reading during the re-opening of the session of the House of Representatives.
This was disclosed by Fr. Tulabing in an interview over DYEM Energy FM Dumaguete Tonight. According to him, no matter how the congressmen defend the bill as not pro-abortion, if it be read and understood thoroughly, the bill permits abortion in extreme cases. The priest also scored the lawmakers saying that the politicians are the liars and not the servants of the church.
Earlier, the lawmakers said that those who tag the bill as pro-abortion are liars since the bill still recognizes abortion as illegal and punishable.
The Catholic Church here is also planning to meet with the three representatives in the province in order to express their stand on the said bill that promotes family planning. However, Fr. Tulabing said that Congresswoman Josy Limkaichong of the first district has already expressed her support to the bill on reproductive health. Fr. Tulabing said that he understood Congresswoman Limkaichong’s stand since she is a woman.
Meanwhile, Fr. Tulabing is open to the idea of not giving communion to those politicians who will support the said controversial bill. Fr. Tulabing disclosed that under Canon Law 915, sinners especially those who assisted in the abortion of a child will be denied of the Holy Communion.
