The second suspect in the ambush slaying of a barangay captain and 5 others during the election season in La Libertad was arrested in Manila and brought to Dumaguete to face murder charges in court.

Arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Mario Trinidad of Guihulngan RTC Branch 64 was William Paunilan, 35, married , a resident of Manluminsag, La Libertad who is also a habal habal driver.

His arrest in Manila brought to two out of the five suspects in the election-related ambush slaying. The others at large are Fernando Boy Dorimon, Fregie Arellano, Tikyo Manait, and some other John Does. The first to fall was one Sandalo Mongolore. All of the suspects have P50,000 peso reward on their head.

Mayor Lawrence Limkaichong of La Libertad is set to give the award of P50,000 to the civilian informant leading to the arrest of the second suspect.

When presented to the media, Paunilan intimated that he used to ferry the suspects to the house of a first district politician intimating that the said politician was the mastermind of the ambush slaying. But he did not name the politician yet he promised to cooperate with the authorities provided his family will be protected from retaliation.



The provincial command of the PNP headed by Col Ramon Mervin Buenafe said that as a policy, he will puruse all leads that will have all ambush suspects arrested. He said that the Mission of Insp. Robles was to fetch the suspect arrested in Manila and brought to Dumaguete on board a commercial flight.


This is now the second time, the local PNP pursed the leads of the suspect and which led to their arrest in Manila. This only means that the PNP is not sleeping on their job. With ample intelligence funds, we are confident that the PNP can deliver the arrest of notorious criminals.

The problem is if and when the intelligence funds do not arrive on time and as funded. That means crime bustingwill be hampered.

We appeal to the PNP and AFP in Manila to make sure that intelligence funds arrive here on time and intact, if they want crime busting to be a success, and not a failure. –30-
