300 million 2008 Budget Approved
After long sessions of debates and discussions, the Dumaguete City Council has at last approved at its third and final reading for the city’s budget for the year 2008.
The vote stands 7-3-2 with Councilors Chiquitting Sagarbarria, Rommel Erames, Franklin Esmena, Noel de Jesus, Espiridion Catan, Alan Cordova and Amy Dicen who agreed with the Php 300 million budget for the upcoming year.
The three councilors who strongly objected the proposed budget were Councilors Tony Remollo, Nilo Sayson and Athena Duran while Councilors Rotelio Lumjod and Raul Infante abstained.
The opposing councilors disclosed that the budget allotted for the year 2008 is questionable.
According to Councilor Remollo, he objects the removal of the Php 700, 000 budget which was intended for the Councilor’s medical and public assistance fund that was realigned to the police auxiliary fund instead.
The ordinance to create police auxiliary is yet to be promulgated and is not yet discussed in the city council.
Councilor Sayson agrees with Remollo and disclosed that there is a need for a budget reform.
