Solon pushes for yellow corn cultivation
Because of the increase of the demand for yellow corn in the country, Second District Representative George Arnaiz advises the farmers of the second district and the whole province to plant yellow corn.
According to Congressman Arnaiz, the supply of yellow corn in the world market has decreased. The United States of America no longer exports yellow corn to other countries including the Philippines. This is because yellow corn is changed into “Bio-Ethanol” which is used as an alternative fuel of transportations because of the continuous rise in the price of fuel.
Arnaiz disclosed that there are still lots of vacant areas in the province which could be utilized for panting yellow corn. Yellow corn is also used as one of the ingredients to produce hog feeds. Evidently, because of the shortage in the demand of yellow corn, the price of hog feeds are also rising resulting to higher prices of pork in the market.
The congressman also assured the second district that he will do all the means he can to ask for funding from the national office of the Department of Agriculture which will be utilized to help the farmers who would wish to plant yellow corn.
