Men Celebrate
International Women’s Day
On a day normally associated with women marching arm and arm to assert their right to a fair and safe co-existence with men, this year in the Municipality of Amlan, men will lead the celebration for International Women’s Day.
The men are part of a new value formation program called “Men for Violence-Free Communities” which has been offered to men in all the Barangay’s of the Municipality of Amlan. The program seeks to focus on orienting men about a new lifestyle where no violence and abuse toward women and children is exercised. The value formation program has been developed by the Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation (GWAVE) as a two year project in partnership with the Municipality of Amlan.
The men of Amlan will welcome a biker caravan of the Negros Oriental Bikers Association (NOBA) riding from Dumaguete under the theme “Men Against Violence”. The bikers from Dumaguete will converge with the bikers of Amlan in the Municipality of San Jose, and together they will bike to the town Plaza of Amlan and celebrate International Women’s Day highlighted by an address from Amlan Mayor Benthan de la Cruz, a performance by Youth Advocates Through Arts (YATA) and other activities.
All bikers are welcome to join this day of advocacy. The Assembly point in Dumaguete for all bikers is at the Freedom Park at 7:00am on Saturday, March 8. The activities in Amlan will begin at 8:30am. Come and be part of this important celebration.
