Ambush Case dismissed
The Department of Justice has dismissed the charges multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder raised against former first district solon Jing Paras.
In an eleven-page resolution, First Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Cielitolindo Luyun pointed out the lack of evidence against Paras. The resolution was issued by Luyun last March 17 yet but one of the legal counsels received the copy of it just last March 31.
It can be recalled that one of the suspects of the Barangay Manluminsag Ambush last March of the other year, where many lost their lives and some contained wounds, identified Ex-Congressman Jing Paras as the mastermind of the crime. Thing which has been strongly denied by Paras
In the resolution, Luyun said that there are lots of inconsistencies on suspect William Paunillian’s affidavit.
In Paunillians’s first counter affidavit, he did not identify Paras as the mastermind but on his second sworn statement, he already pointed Paras as the main culprit. Paunillian said that he was disturbed by his conscience that is why he revealed the name of the mastermind.
On the other hand, Paras disclosed that his name was only dragged into the case because of politics. He said that the victims were political allies of Congresswoman Josy Limkaichong who was the political opponent of Paras’ wife during the last election. He also added that he does not know Paunillian.
In an interview over Dumaguete Tonight with Atty Alfredo Hermosa III, he said that the legal counsels of complainant Jorlan Baylon have already filed a Motion for Reconsideration on the resolution issued by Luyun. Atty Hermosa is the legal counsel of primary suspect William Paunillian.
Earlier, Luyun was sent by the Department of Justice to do the preliminary investigation on the case.
