Mayor Villanueva declares
Innovative programs and projects marks his first year

BAIS CITY, Negros Oriental- Mayor Hector “Tata” Villanueva declared that as the first year of his administration in his third term come to end, he declared that it was able to embark on new and innovative programs and projects in the areas of governance, administrative, capability building, social and economic development and environmental management.
The mayor stressed this in last Tuesday’s State of the City Address (SOCA) Tuesday morning at the Sangguniang Panglungsod session hall.
The mayor’s address to the local legislators came while it also celebrates its 1st Anniversary under the 6th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Luciano Benlota as presiding officer.
“On this occasion, I am proud to report to the people of this City that I have always held sacred the trust and confidence that you have placed upon my shoulders as your mayor” Villanueva emphasized in the same city address.
The mayor added that his administration continues to give special care and attention to the disadvantaged sectors of the urban communities as well as the indigenous people’s community and poor agricultural sector in the far flung barangays.
The mayor also took pride that so called customer service and community affairs programs on skills, livelihood and entrepenurship development have benefited women’s groups. Out of school youth, indigenous people, elderly ehile fishery and agricultural research and extension services have reached out to the small scale and marginal farmers and fisher folks.
“Such initiatives are concomitant with our equally important basic service delivery on health and nutrition, education, social welfare, housing and basic utilities, and peace and order, as well as our long term infrastructure support” stressed the mayor.
The mayor added that aside from dervice delivery endeavor, his administration committed to the improvement of the economic environment by attracting private sector investments, and at the same time enhancing revenue collection system.
He said that for the year 2007, his leadership was able to realize local revenue of almost P53 million pesos which was 7% higher than the previous year.
“We have been achieving an average of 10% yearly increase in our local revenue collection” the mayor said.
For the year 2007, the city’s total financial resource allocation amounted to P286 million pesos, 20 % of which comes from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) which composed the economic development fund and was utilized for the implementation of various development programs and projects, including 35 barangay projects worth P38.7 million pesos.
The mayor said that he is confident that his administration will be able to pursue endeavors and meet targets for this year with the ready legislative action and support
